Ummm, Didn't the Calendar say it is Spring already...

Hello, as I drove my 2 beautiful to children to school this morning I noticed something. The date today is April 7th, and outside the window on the way to school I saw a dusting of snow on the ground. On the red clay mud of North Alabama there is snow on the ground. Can you believe it?! So this evening after school I will take my children home and dress my BBB in sweats, 2 shirts, winter cap to cover his ears and his cleats and send him down the street for baseball practice. HELLLLOOOOOOO, God have you looked at a calendar? It is suppose to be Spring turn on the sun and warmer weather PLEASE!!!!!

It is begining to sound like Summer....

Have I mentioned that I spend an obscene amount of time at our park once baseball/softball season starts? Honestly, I am there every single day....rain or shine. Albeit, if it is raining I only go and look around but I go down there. I don't know why I go down there....I guess to just be close to the fields. I love it there. I would stay down there all night if I didn't think my husband would divorce me.

So, tonight I actually had business down there. We were having a meeting. (that people actually showed up for...can you believe it) I flew home as fast as I could and told Frick and Frack that they could go with me. I dropped Pudge off with her Daddy and off we went. Frick loaded down with Pokemon cards and Frack with sidewalk chalk. There were several other kiddos there thank goodness and off they went. They adults got underway and then you could hear it....just listen.....about 12 kids all having a terrific time. Now some of these kids haven't seen each other since last summer, others have only been together 2-3 times and you would think that they have known each other for years! I love it. They were running and playing, color side walks and trading cards. I love the sound of kids playing at the park....It makes me smile....

Why is it....

Here in the great state of Alabama (read God's Country) March and April are very rainy months. But why can't a kid catch a break. It was been cold and rainy every day that has been a practice day and then TODAY it is 65 and sunny! What is the deal?? Some cruel April Fool's Day joke?? I mean come on....let's play ball already!!!!

Rain, Rain go away....

Well, it rained but it didn't rain out practices. I started getting calls before lunch about whether or not we would practice. LOL...I have no idea what the weather is going to be like at 6 when you call at 11:30. I can remember my Dad getting those phone calls and he would drive down and walk around the fields. I can't leave and go walk the fields so I send my Mom or my brother, whoever is available. Barney Fyffe went for me. He looked at the field....only standing water on one. Okay, but he didn't walk on the squishy ground. The red clay mud was so thick it was difficult to run in...especially on the softball fields. YUCK!

But everyone was there...the park was full! I love it like this. I enjoy all the parents. I hate that I don't get to sit and watch my own kids and enjoy them playing but I am trying to help the whole and even at 7 and 6 they understand that. We took the wee babe to the park last night. Starting her young...she will soon love the smell of the grass and the chalk lines and lights glowing, the screams of the kids as they run and play! What more could make it perfect??? According to Madame Secretary...."an open concession stand!" My work is never done...LOL

Tales from the Centerfield....

It's 8:30pm on a Tuesday night I haven't seen my husband or my kids. I still haven't had supper and my cell hasn't stopped ringing. I am not some big wig executive at some high profile Fortune 500 company. I am not a world famous cardiac surgeon. I am just a everyday average "yo mama" with 3 kids and a husband, BUT I am also responsible for managing our neighborhood rec league. Sure it is fun, I have met lots of wonderful people and made some very special friendships. But it is a full time job, I mean I am on the phone all day long and into the evening. I run from the time I get home till it is time for bed trying to get it all done. It is a full time job that doesn't pay a dime but if smiles were dollars I would be a millionaire. Just seeing the kids out there having a great time is well worth it!

So when I got home tonight and in between sneaking bites of supper and washing little people's hair I was thinking about our park website. We are trying to step up and bring our little league into the 21st century. Well, there in our little bathroom it hits me..."Hey! Why not blog about all that goes into this craziness?" I thought this is a terrific opportunity for our parents and anyone else who might find it interesting to see what goes into running a sports league.

So here it is the good the bad and the ugly. This is also my way of getting it all out and not talking everyone's ear off about what is new with Continental League. Read, Laugh, Sympathize....just don't judge! LOL
